SINDH Governor Kamran Tessori announces 80-yard plot for Lyari Building Collapse-Vofre

Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Memon said on Tuesday that it is not possible for the provincial government to deliver housing to all residents who were displaced after 11 buildings were classified as dangerous and evacuated.

When he talked about a news segment that was broadcast on a private TV channel, the minister said that about 740 buildings across Sindh have been declared unsafe, with at least 51 classified as extremely dangerous. Eleven buildings in the latter category were evacuated, he added.

However, the provincial government would offer temporary housing to some families, similar to previous efforts made for flooding and victims of Covid-19, Memon said.

The Minister considered that Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) has begun to demolish uncertain structures near the collapsed structure of the five-story building in Lyaris Bagdadi area claiming at least 27 lives.

Sindh Local Government Saeed Ghani had announced that each affected family would get Rs a million as compensation.

The provincial government subsequently suspended SBCA’s Director -General and suspended officials from the regulatory body responsible for the area.

Meanwhile, SINDH Governor Kamran Tessori announced Tuesday that 80-yard plot will be given to affected families from Lyari building collapse.

In a speech with the media in Karachi, Tessori said, “I have arrived in Karachi today and without wasting time I have come to Lyari. I will send all my proposals for this tragedy to the Sindh government through a letter”.

Tessori emphasized that the collapse of the building was not a minor event. “There will be no silence in this case, and those responsible will be held responsible,” he said, recognizing the efforts of the Sindh Ministers Ghani and Nabil Gabol so far.

He urged the provincial government to provide six months of rent and relocation in the same area for now evacuated residents of the 11 dangerous buildings.

Tessori assured that the Governor House would remain active in ensuring support to the victims and offering important resources such as ration and employment opportunities.

The governor expanded his support to the Aggreived families, many of whom come from the Hindu society and considered that a helmet, 1133, has been created for help.
