Jemima Goldsmith calls Pakistan’s actions against her children a ‘personal vendetta’

Jemima Goldsmith, ex-wife of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, has accused the Pakistani government of preventing her children from talking to their father and threatening to arrest them if they try to visit him and denote it “a personal vendetta”.

Imran, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI), has been in a lonely inclusion since August 2023, after being jailed on several charges ranging from corruption to terrorism.

“My kids are not allowed to talk on the phone to their father Imran Khan. He has been in a lonely inclusion in prison for almost 2 years,” Goldsmith posted on X (formerly Twitter).

“Pakistan’s government has now said that if they go there to try to see him, they will also be arrested and put behind pillars. This does not happen in a democracy or a functioning state. This is not politics. It is a personal vendetta,” she added.

Goldsmith’s statement came after comments that the Prime Minister’s adviser to political affairs Rana Sanaullah warned that Khan’s sons would be arrested if they took up a planned PTI protest in Pakistan.

Previously, IMRAN’s sister, Aleema Khan, had that former Premier’s sons, Suleman and Kasim Khan, would join the protest movement initiated by him.

Aleema made these comments after a visit to Adiala Prison, where she and her sisters Uzma and Noreen Khan together with partyers were to meet Imran. However, Aleema was denied permission to meet with his brother.

In a speech with the media, Aleema said IMRAN would lead the protest behind the pillars. “Imran Khan has said he will lead the protest movement. He is free while in prison, but we are prisoners despite being outside,” she said.

She added that his sons, Suleman and Kasim would join the movement to support their father after visiting the United States.

Earlier in May, Suleman and Kasim had publicly treated their father’s prison and called for international pressure on Pakistan to secure his release.

This was the first instance that the brothers talked about their father’s situation, despite the fact that they were reportedly allowed to get in touch with him weekly since November 2023. According to Imran’s sons, these calls were inconsistent and difficult to arrange.

In an interview with X (formerly Twitter) influencer Mario Nawfal, the brothers explained why they decided to break their silence.

“We’ve gone through the legal routes. We’ve gone through each route that we thought would potentially get him out. We never thought he would be in there a fraction of how long he’s been in there. And it’s only getting worse. And then we have some running out of these opportunities. And now we’ve decided that the only route to take steps is to come and talk publicly,” Kasim said.

“What we want is international pressure on Pakistan right now because he is currently living under inhumane conditions. They don’t give him basic human rights … They don’t do anywhere nearby. And what we want is global pressure,” he added.
