Islamabad:
Prime Minister of Interior Talal Chaudhry has said that the children of the imprisoned PTI founder Imran Khan will have to enter Pakistan after getting a visa “if they are not Pakistani citizens”. Chaudhry talked to journalists in Parliament’s house on Friday.
On July 9, IMRAN’s sister -Aleema Kham -announced that PTI -base’s family members including his sons Kasim and Sulaiman would soon be part of a protest movement.
In a speech with the media, Aleema had said that Imran would lead the protest behind the pillars. “Imran Khan has said he will lead the protest movement. He is free while in prison, but we are prisoners despite being outside,” she said.
She added that his sons, Suleman and Kasim would join the movement to support their father after visiting the United States.
In a comment on the move, PM’s adviser to political affairs Rana Sanaullah said the former prime minister’s sons – residing in the UK with IMRAN’s first wife Jemima Goldsmith – would be arrested if they joined the PTI protest in Pakistan.
Jemima went to X to condemn the statement. “This is not happening in a democracy or a working state. This is not politics. It is a personal vendetta,” she said on Thursday.
Answer to a question about the participation of IMRAN’s family in the upcoming protest, the prime minister said with his sons, “Imran’s [alleged] daughter [Tyrian White] Should also come to Pakistan. “
“If they are Pakistani citizens, visa restrictions will still apply. No local or foreign person will be allowed to come to Pakistan and take the law in their own hands,” he added. Chaudhry claimed that IMRAN’s former in-law-in-law-Goldsmith family-fortifieds support the PTI founder today.
Separately declared Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Governor Faisal Karim Kundi also that the children of Imran Khan are not out of reach of the law and if they try to take the law in their own hands, they will have legal consequences like any other citizen.
According to a report, Kundi noted that keeping peaceful demonstrations was everyone’s court, including the children of the PTI base, but added that “if they cross the legal line, the law will take its way.”
When commenting on the double nationality status of the PTI founders’ children, the governor said that if they do not hold Pakistani citizenship, the matter may fall under the British High Commission.
However, he emphasized that no one is exempt from Pakistani law. “Just as British law applies to Pakistanis in Britain, Pakistani law will apply to British citizens present in Pakistan,” he noted.
Earlier in May, Suleman and Kasim had publicly treated their father’s prison and called for international pressure on Pakistan to secure his release.
This was the first instance that the brothers talked about their father’s situation, despite the fact that they were reportedly allowed to get in touch with him weekly since November 2023. According to Imran’s sons, these calls were inconsistent and difficult to arrange.
In an interview with X (formerly Twitter) influencer Mario Nawfal, the brothers explained why they decided to break their silence.
