Full spoilers immediately follow in the 2025s Superman film.
Superman Do more than just make us think a man can fly.
With a $ 200 million+ features at the global ticket office in opening weekend plus the critical and commercial recognition it’s received, James Gunn’s Superman Movies have led us to believe in DC -Commerce Movies again. DC Universe’s (DCU) first film-find out of how to watch the DC movies in order, while you gave us a wildly entertaining, eye-catching and heartfelt story filled with household names and unknown characters.
This is also where I think Superman succeed best. From Mister Terrific and Engineer, the DCU Chapter One movie illuminates several underrated DC comic characters who deserve their time to shine in Gunn and Peter Sarfran’s restarted film franchise. It is, however, another Metahuman – one that can be recognized for some viewers but not others – that Superman Really do right even if she is only on camera for 30 seconds or so: Supergirl.
She only came briefly, but Milly Alcock’s supergirl-really name Kara Zor-El-is everything I wanted from a live-action adaptation of Superman’s cousin.
I don’t throw shade at Meg Donnelly, who was one of the last challengers of the role of Supergirl before losing to Alcock in January 2024, by saying it either. I’m sure Donnelly would have been a big supergirl, but there’s just something about Alcocks, albeit quick time on the screen that catches the rebellious, reckless side of Clark Kent/Kal-El’s relative we’ve really seen in the comics.
Take her crash through the wrong part of the loneliness fortress because she is intoxicated (yes, she is a little drunk, but she is not an alcoholic or a frat girl as some have wrongly displaced Gunn and company for) and then accuses SUPES of moving the door in a apparent redesign of his secret headquarters. Or what about her lack of concern about where Kal-El is or what he has been on with and only returns to earth to gather her disobedient pets crypto?
Then there is the joy she gets from being thrown by crypto – far from how Supes handled similar situations throughout the film. Oh, and let’s not forget that she’s humorously rude to Clark – she calls him “B *** H” after sarcastically thanks him for having babysitter crypto – before flying to an unknown.
Combine the above with her authentic supergirl costume, plus the beige-colored coat she wears in ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’-the eight-empty cartoon that her upcoming solo movie is heavily inspired by and Alcocks Kara could be the most shaped version of the character we’ve seen yet. In fact, the above pairs with the strong sense of justice and caring nature she has shown in past large and small screen performances make me even more confident that those involved in Supergirl Will knock it out of the park.
Of course, it’s hard to read too much in Alcocks Como and determine if she can wear a tent pole film.
Supergirl: Tomorrow WomanIf title recently was abbreviated to simply SupergirlWill not only be Kryptonian’s first time -free film of over 40 years, but it is also the first Flick Alcock is the main star of. The pressure is definitely turned on to make sure Alcock was the right choice for the role and that Gunn and Safran made the right call to prioritize a supergirl movie over a Solo Batman or Wonder Woman DCU Flick, both of which are in early development.

DCU is in the process of a good start with SupermanBut it needs other projects like SupergirlAt Peacemaker Season 2, Lanternsand Clayface to the same to work well. If they do, DCU will be worth investing in. If for some reason, Supergirl Fighting but we could have a post-Avengers: Endgame Situation that has seen Marvel fans have love for one project but does not like the next.
These two little worries in spite of i’m self -assured Supergirl Will be a big hit and Alcock’s performance will be a big reason for. She has already commanded the screen in season 1 of Dragon HouseWhile her natural, undeniable talent has been on full view in the aforementioned HBO Max Show and recently Netflix TV Original Sirens. So there’s no reason why Alcock can’t deliver a similar great screen in The Girl of Steel’s Next Cinematic Outing. If something, her lonely scene in Superman confirms she will.
