A Nintendo Switch 2 owner warns players to buy pre-owned physical games after being banned from unknowingly playing cloned versions.
Last month, it was reported that Nintendo broke down on piracy and had begun to block access to online services on Switch 2 if the players were caught using me flash, a tool used to create copies of games.
But it seems that even innocent players are not safe from the company’s strict anti-piracy policy.
As reported by IGN, Redditor ‘Dmanhey’ shared a post that said they were banned by Nintendo after loading some original Switch games they bought from Facebook Marketplace.
The user explained that although the physical copies were legitimate, they later discovered that the games had already been copied by the original owner, which was why their console was limited.
“Switch 2 users -Be careful about buying used Switch 1 play. You can be banned if a bad actor dumped it,” said Dmanhey. ‘ “Was banned and unjustified after just downloading patches to 4 Switch 1 games I bought from Facebook Marketplace.”
Dmanhey explained in the thread that they unconsciously played original Switch cartridges that were cloned using a piracy device.
“Basically, a thief/rent a game. They make a copy for themselves using me -dumper,” the user said. “They resell the original game and keep a copy for themselves on their me. Then both of you are banned when Switch 2 goes online. Only one of you has carts, so it’s the person who will be unbanited.”
Fortunately, Dmanhey was able to be unbanible after talking to Nintendo’s customer service and providing evidence of their purchase and conversation from the seller Facebook Marketplace.
“I contacted Nintendo Support and found that I was banned,” they said. “They made me pull up the Facebook marketplace and take some pictures of the cartridges. The whole process was painless and quick.”
‘Dmanhey’ added, ‘the amount of info they had is crazy’.
“They could see my DDWRT points, marked by my memory card, they even knew I had an EVGA mouse and keyboard connected to my switch 2,” they continued.
Another user was confronted with a similar situation last month after buying pre-owned Switch 2 from Walmart, only to find out that it had been ‘walled’ by Nintendo after starting it up.
