Sanghar’s mutilated camel stands on her feet again

Karachi:

A year after being brutally mutilated by a landlord who chopped her legs in Sanghar -District, the Cammie camel went again on Tuesday on all four legs using a prosthetic limb, creating a euphoric feeling among her carers.

She had reportedly chopped her forele of a landlord in June 2024 as punishment for feeding in his field for feed for which six suspects were detained.

She was taken in by Comprehensive Disaster Response Services (CDRS) Benji project for animal welfare in Karachi, where she has spent over a year.

On Tuesday, the shelter delivered an update that Cammie had risen for the first time since her mutilation along with a video showing her that got used to going with her new prosthetic bone.

“It’s been a year of tears, setbacks, rehabilitation, pain and quiet endurance. A year when we were told to give up, go ahead and stop delaying the inevitable. But we chose to stand by her. And today she stood for us all.”

The shelf thanked his team and supporters as well as PPP MNA Shazia Marri, PPP —Senator Quratulain Marri and Sindh government for their “unwavering support and trust in [the team’s] Mission “. The Sindh government had previously committed to cover the cost of treatment.

Both sisters had taken a strict message about the camel’s mutilation event. In a joint statement last year, they said veterinary doctors referred them to CDRs and to save the camel was a “joint effort.”

Shazia said today that there was “no bigger feeling than when months of hard work, care and consistent efforts pay off!” While the latter said, “Dedicated service over immediate indignation every day. You stayed for this long after the temporarily annoyed had forgotten her existence. Everyone on the team who continues to look after Cammie – they are the superstars!”
