GOLFINFUNFUNERS Grant Horvat rejected a sponsor’s exemption from the Barracuda championship this week, and his reasoning is about his YouTube content.

Horvat is one of the most popular content creators in the YouTube golf space that sporty almost 1.4 million subscribers and plays with some of the best players in the world such as Scottie Scheffler, Jon Rahm and Phil Mickelson, to name a few.

He was invited to play at the Tahoe Mountain Club this week to the Barracuda championship, but he rejected the sponsor’s exemption because the trip, as he explained, would not allow his camera fellow inside the ropes to film his rounds.

“The reason I don’t want to play in a PGA Tour event is due to the rules and regulations of media rights and filming during tournament games of a PGA Tour event,” Horvat said in a video on his YouTube page. “Basically, that means I wouldn’t be allowed to film my round during tournament games.

“For me personally, it was to do YouTube to live and want to document everything I do – this is why we got the invitation in the first place was because of YouTube and because of the amazing experiences I get to share because of you.”

Horvat said he hopes he can attend a tour event in the future, but so far he does not play with the rules on the spot.

“I hope that sometime in the future we can play in a PGA Tour event … and document and film it all to share with you because I know what I would feel it in a PGA Tour event and boy, I want it on the camera,” Horvat said in the video.

PGA Tour may have seen a sponsor’s exemption from Horvat as a way to reach a new demographic. However, Horvat remained true to his followers, including almost a million on Instagram and would not play if it did not involve any cameras.

Barracuda is not a regular PGA Tour field, as the open championship, the last major of the year, is also played in the UK this weekend. Players like Scheffler, Rory McIlroy and many more will not be available in California this week.

However, the PGA tour has leaned into the golf content of late. They had “Creator Classic” tournaments that corresponded to life golf events.
