Ministry draws PAC flak over ‘irregular payments’

Islamabad:

Public Accounts Committee (PAC) came down hard on the Ministry of Planning on the Ministry of Planning over massive financial irregularities, non -track -track grants and apparently administrative dysfunction.

The meeting, led by Junaid Akbar Khan, examined audit objections related to the Ministry’s financial results.

In a shocking revelation, it was stated that the supplementary grants issued by the Ministry of Planning exceeded the original grant with a staggering 134%. Revelation triggered indignation from the members. “These numbers make no sense. Is there any planning in the planning department at all?” Asked Naveed Qamar.

Committee member Riaz Fatyana complained that every fourth person in the country was unemployed, and yet there was no coherent thinking about human development. “Revision paras is a disaster. This service might as well be shut down,” he added.

Junaid Akbar questioned whether the ministry had lost both financial and administrative control. “And if this is the Ministry of Planning, what should we expect from other ministries?” He asked.

The committee decided to initiate formal studies of several audit objections, with reports to be submitted within a month.

A tense moment arose when committee member Sardar Sanaullah Mastichel demanded full detection of perks and wages for not only politicians, but also senior officers from all key state institutions, including class 22 bureaucrats, military generals and the Supreme Court.
