Alleged forced conversion, marriage with three Hindu girls Sparks protesting

After Sanghar -District, an identical case of alleged abduction and forced conversion of the religion of three Hindu girls appeared in Tando Allahyar’s district, where Kolhi and Meghwadh families have also brought fours with police. Three separate fours were registered on Sunday at Sultanabad Police Station that the young women were kidnapped from different locations at the limits of that police station.

The parents also claimed that their daughters including Khenchi Kolhi, Lata Devi Meghwadh and Meena Meghwadh were forced to change their religion to Islam on July 13. The Hindu community also staged sit-in demonstrations and demanded arrest of the alleged kidnappers. According to them, the girls were minor and therefore they cannot marry under the law.

Tanveer Brohi and Qadir Brohi have been accused in FIR of kidnapping Khenchi; Saeed Ahmed Kharal, Ali Akbar Punjabi and Mashallah Brohi for Lata; and Ali Sher Brohi and Abdul Sattar Brohi, both brothers, for Meena. The FIR numbers 44/2025, 45/2025 and 46/2025 have been registered in accordance with sections 365/b and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

The protest ended at Police Insurance that they would arrest the defendants and recover the young women. Meanwhile, all three women on Tuesday showed up for Sindh High Court Hyderabad Circuit Bench with Tanveer, Saeed and Ali Sher. They declared before SHC that they have willingly changed their religion and that they have married the three men. The women also changed their Hindu names to Muslim names after the conversion. Their new names are calosome, bisma and samaima, they assessed the court that provided protective bail for the pairs.

Sindh Human Rights Commission chairman Iqbal Ahmed Deetho wrote a letter to SSP Tando Allahyar on Tuesday and asked him to secure a fair investigation of the case, especially with regard to the ages of young women. He reiterated that if they were minor, the solemnity of the marriages would constitute Sindh Child Marriage Restain Act, 2013.
