- A new gemini space for the pixel feature is leaked
- It shows information such as sports results and birthdays
- The feature is similar to some parts of a UI 8
Changes come to a glance -widget sitting on the pixel start screen, according to Hidden Code, discovered in the latest Preview version of Android -and it could develop to be more like a few features of Samsung’s one UI software.
Code spotting was done by Android Authority, and the team that was able to get something called Gemini Space and runs in Android Canary (the earliest beta version of Android you can get).
We haven’t heard anything official about the Gemini space yet, but it seems to be based on a moment and are able to show more information: Sports results and birthday reminders, for example as well as weather forecasts and details of calendar appointments. Some of this info may already appear on Android through sustained messages.
All of these updates can be seen on the lock screen as well as the Home screen, and it seems that users will also have the opportunity to expand these cards to a daily hub that provides relevant information throughout the day.
Do you sound familiar?
Viewing contextually relevant information on the home screen and lock screen – including sports results, timers and fitness data – sounds a lot like what Samsung does with the now bar and now map on a UI 7 and a UI 8.
It looks like Google has looked at what Samsung is doing and will follow. At the same time, you could also claim that Samsung’s Widgets were inspired by a moment on pixels and live activities on iOS.
We also know that a feature called live updates will come to Android 16, which will also put information in real time on the lock screen. Everywhere we see improvements in how relevant information emerges to users – no matter which one is and model of the phone you are using.
It is not clear when the new Gemini room may make its way to pixel phones, but you can expect big updates to Android 16 as we go through the rest of the year, including a wider roll -out of the material 3 Expressive Redesign.
