Comedian Shane Gillis was tapped to host Espys on Wednesday night, and he had a Krass Zinger for Indiana Fever Star Caitlin Clark under one of his opening monologues.

Gillis, who is also an actor in the Netflix series “Tires”, had something for everyone while on stage in Los Angeles. Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Cleveland Brown’s Quarterback Shhedeur Sanders were also among the goals.

But Gilli’s future mapped out after she finishes WNBA.

“When Caitlin Clark retires from WNBA, she has to work in a waffle house so she can continue to do what she loves most-nor-fighting black women,” he said to polite laughter from the crowd.

Clark was not at Espys Wednesday as she continues to be evaluated after a apparent injury during the team’s victory over Connecticut Sun. She came out of the floor on Tuesday night and grabbed her upper legs and was seen on the bench in tears.

The fever star was set to be a captain of the All-Star game and participate in the 3-point shooting competition. But all this seemed in the air.

“There is no discussion about this weekend yet,” said fever header Stephanie White on Wednesday night. “Imaging was performed, and of course we pronounce her tonight, but there has been no discussion beyond tonight.”

Clark sustained a groin injury late in the fourth quarter of Indiana’s victory over the sun in Boston on Tuesday night. White said she didn’t think it was a “Reinjury.” Clark missed time in May due to a quad injury and was recently sidelined in five matches with a left groin.

“I’m not really sure it’s a reinjury as much as another kind of injury. I often know when you work with injuries in the groin and quad and hamstring and all these things that are just – they are all kinds tied together and that’s not always one thing.”
