Two women killed in Lyari Building Collapse, three others wounded

Two women were killed and three others were wounded on Thursday after the roof of a six-storey residential building collapsed near Lyaris Khadda market in Karachi, officials said.

According to the rescue authorities, the sixth floor of Ghani Mansion Building, located near Bilal Masjid and the Peshawari Hotel, gave space and fell on the fifth floor, which in turn collapsed on the fourth.

Rescue 1122 teams along with other relief services rushed to the place and launched relief efforts. Police also interrupted the area and helped coordinate rescue operations that are still underway.

You South Syed Asad Raza confirmed that two women died in the incident and three others reported being their daughters injured. The deceased has been moved to Civil Hospital Karachi.

One of the victims was identified as 45 -year -old Hurmat Rafiq, according to a spokesman for the Edhi Foundation. The identity of the other woman has not yet been confirmed.

All five victims were residents of the building. Officials stated that the wounded received medical treatment and their conditions were monitored.

The authorities are investigating the cause of the collapse and assessing structural damage to the surrounding area.

A similar tragedy unfolded earlier this month in Lyaris Bagdadi area when a five-story residential building collapsed. Rescue operations lasted almost 50 hours.

Civil Hospital Karachi confirmed 27 fatalities and 10 injuries, including 11 women, 16 men and a toddler girl aged one and a half years. The incident raised fresh concerns about building security and regulation enforcement in older neighborhoods in Karachi.

The Sindh government subsequently ordered a new provincial investigation of all dangerous buildings with reference to complaints that some had been wrongly declared unsafe.

District Committee has already been established and will include technical experts from ABAD, PEC and architects and urban planners.

A meeting chairman of Ghani reviewed 588 fallen buildings in Karachi, of which 59 were considered extremely dangerous. The Karachi authorities said 29 of them have vacated. The list was later updated with over 70 more uncertain building structure.
