Quetta:

A terrible video appeared on social media on Sunday that portrayed brutal killing of a man and a woman in Balochistan, in the name of the so -called honor and sent shock waves across the country and beyond.

As the video spread like a fireplace, the public turned into disbelief. The graphic images triggered immediate indignation and ignited a fire storm of condemnation from civil society, religious scholars and political leaders.

The victims, whose identities were not immediately known, were reportedly targeted by their own family or community members – a bleak reminder of the archaic and deadly tradition of honor killings that continue to plague parts of Pakistan.

The video showed allegedly that a few armed men seem to be shooting and killing a man and a woman in public. In this video, all people spoke in the Brahui language, and their accent was the same as what was spoken in different areas of Quetta and Mastung, according to the BBC.

The video is apparently made in a mountainous area where there is a desert around a dirt road. In the beginning, several vehicles and jeep can be seen in wide daylight, without more people.

Apparently these men ask a woman dressed in a red dress and a whetical chador about standing a bit from the vehicles. During this, the woman could be heard in Brahui that “only shooting is allowed, nothing else”. The woman did not oppose, stood pretty quietly away from the vehicles.

After this conversation, a few shots were also fired one by one. According to the BBC, it was not clear in the video whether the man or woman was first shot after the first round of shooting is heard a voice saying “Kill him”, which is followed by the sound of several shots.

When he spoke with the media at Karachi Press Club, Balochistan -government spokesman Shahid Rind confirmed that the incident took place in Balochistan, but did not say when and where in the province. He revealed that an accused had been arrested.

“The names of the deceased are obtained and the tribes they belonged to, but these cannot be revealed at this time,” he said. Their bodies had not yet been regained, he continued, saying further that their relatives had not filed any police case.

“The photos of those seen in the video were given to Nadra [National Database and Registration Authority] And with their help, one of the defendants is arrested. Raids is being carried out to arrest the other accused, ”Rind said.

“Originally this incident seemed to take place on Eidul Azha [which was celebrated in June] But we can’t confirm it yet. Both families for the murdered persons have not filed any police report, therefore a case has now been registered on the government’s complaint, “Rind said.

Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti noted the incident and ordered a thorough investigation and a detailed report on the case. He ordered law enforcement authorities to arrest all perpetrators without delay.

“The rule of law will not be compromised. Those who challenge the state’s writing will be treated.

Rind assured the public that the provincial government would take all legal steps to ensure justice is earned. “The Balochistan Government will not remain a quiet spectator in the light of such cruelty. All legal means will be used to bring those responsible for justice,” Rind said.

Meanwhile, the provincial government has also appealed to the public for help in identifying the suspects. Citizens are encouraged to share all information that can help find the people involved.
