Karachi:
Issue the new AJRAK-themed number plates for free or stop litigation for non-compliance, said Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) Senior leader Dr. Farooq Sattar Sunday.
Sattar strongly criticized Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and accused it of running a feudal form of democracy in Sindh for the past 17 years. He warned that Karachi, the province’s financial backbone, was used systematically while its citizens were pushed to the wall.
By tackling a press conference at MQM-P’s Bahadurabad headquarters with senior leaders Syed Amin-Ul-Haque, Zahid Mansoori, Shakil Ahmed and others, said Sattar “There is a smoldering anger in Sindh’s cities. ”.
He questioned the recent promotion of AJRAK-themed number plates and claimed that behind this cultural facade lies a “new avenue for exploitation.” He claimed that thousands of traffic policemen from Interior Sindh have been deployed in Karachi and extorted money from citizens under the pretext of enforcement.
“Governor Sindh has rightly pointed out that Ajrak loses his holiness if used to plunder people,” he added.
Sattar pointed out that while in the inside Sindh more than 95% of vehicles allegedly operating without license plates, no actions are taken there. “Karachi, the golden goose, is slaughtered,” he said, calling for either free issuing of license plates or stops for arbitrary sanctions.
He also criticized the recent transfer of 40 employees from Sehwan Development Authority to Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) and termed it as a “injustice” to Karachi’s youth. “Karachi and Hyderabad resident holders are sidelined in government institutions,” he said.
The MQM leader said the collapse of the building in Lyari and the failure to implement policies on dangerous structures reflect the negligence of the PPP-led provincial government. He demanded that former chief ministers and local government ministers be named in FIR’s for allowing illegal constructions during their term of office.
“The Minister of Local Government is obliged to convene meetings of dangerous buildings every three months – but they have shown complete ignoring,” he noted.
By touching education, Sattar claimed that 90% of students from Sindh’s rural boards failed, while 76% from Karachi passed and showed a shining difference.
“I think sin on these kids. They become dependent on crutches of a broken system,” he noted.
Sattar also criticized the Karachi mayor and Jamaat-e-Islami’s nine city chairmen and accused them of poor urban conditions. “The mayor says he is not responsible for lanes and neighborhoods. Who is then?” He asked.
