Kansas City Chief’s wide recipient Rashee Rice will be a full participant in training camp despite being sentenced to 30 days in prison following his commitment to a chain reaction car accident that left people injured last year in Dallas.
Head coach Andy Reid said that Rice, who had a breakout season his rookie year in 2023, will be seen throughout the training camp, but he will not comment on whether he will be able to fully participate in the regular season.
Reid said the NFL has not told him what their discipline, which is expected, will be for rice. Currently, the bosses will work as they would normally prepare rice and the rest of the team in week 1.

“We want to move on as usual with him,” Reid said. “He wants to go in and take all the reps that he will normally take. We always rotate that position. Depending on what happens here with the future – who needs to play will step in and know what they are doing and be in good shape to do so.”
Rice pleaded guilty to two -third -degree crime costs for collision involving severe bodily harm and racing on a highway that causes bodily harm in the breakdown in March 2024.

Rice was sentenced to five years of postponed probation and 30 days in prison as a condition of his probationary period, which was part of a plea for an agreement.

Rice released a statement after the crash and said he would “take full responsibility for my part in this matter.” In a statement from his lawyer, Rice said he had “a lot of sleepless nights and thought about the injuries my actions caused and I will continue to work within my means to make sure everyone affected will be done all over.”
With the legal process over, the NFL can now review their own process to determine how they can discipline Rice, who will be heading into his third NFL season.
Rice was starting a hot start in 2024 and seemed to be heading in the same direction after his rookie year saw 79 receptions for 938 yards and seven touchdowns thrown by Patrick Mahomes. Rice played a role in Chiefs who won their other straight Super Bowl that season.
By 2024, Rice had 24 catches in 288 yards with two touchdowns in just three games. Week 4, however, turned out to be a nightmare when he tore his LCL and tried to get a tackle after a Mahomes crossing against Los Angeles chargers. It cost rice all season.

Since then, Rice has recovered and participated in the team’s offseason program. Reid mentioned that Rice would not be limited in training camp, which means he is 100% ready to go.
As he prepares for the 2025 season, however, there will be the NFL’s potential discipline threatening over his head until the word comes from the league.
