Islamabad:
The United Nations Security Council on Tuesday unanimously adopted a Pakistan-sponsored decision entitled “Strength Mechanisms for Peaceful Settlement of Disputes,” which marked a significant diplomatic performance under Pakistan’s Presidency of the Council for July.
The adoption of the resolution, chairman of the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, was hailed as a landmark development in the promotion of international peace and security.
According to an official release, the decision emphasizes the importance of preventative diplomacy, conflict prevention and the peaceful solution of disputes in line with the principles of the UN Charter.

Resolution 2788 (2025) seeks to improve the role of mechanisms described in accordance with Chapter VI of the UN Charter, and calls on Member States to prioritize peaceful means of solving disputes. It calls on additional nations to make relevant Security Council decisions aimed at facilitating peaceful settlements.
The resolution also calls for both UN Member States and the organization itself to explore early diplomatic commitment, mediation, dialogue facility and confidence-building measures at international, regional and under-regional levels.
It encourages improved cooperation between regional organizations and the UN in the effort to prevent escalation of disputes and promote sustainable peace.

Pakistan, who is currently serving as a non-permanent member of the Security Council, confirmed his long-standing obligation to multilateralism and the peaceful solution of international disputes.
Islamabad referred to the adoption of its decision as a meaningful contribution to global peace and stability and adapted to its foreign policy goals.
Meanwhile, on the sidelines of the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) on sustainable development, Deputy Prime Minister Dar held a meeting with Austria’s special envoy for global affairs, Peter Launsky.
Both sides expressed satisfaction over the positive course for bilateral ties and discussed opportunities for further cooperation, especially in education, tourism and business.

Launsky valued the contributions of Pakistani Diaspora to Austria’s economy and social cohesion.
The two also confirmed their countries’ close cooperation on multilateral platforms, where Austria praised Pakistan’s constructive role in the Security Council, especially under its current presidency.
A day earlier, DAR also met UN Secretary General António Guterres at the UN Headquarters, where he raised concerns about India’s ongoing violations of the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT).
He described the violations as a threat to regional stability and called on the United Nations to play a proactive role in maintaining international agreements.

Deputy Prime Minister also drawn attention to a number of critical issues, including the long-standing jammu and kashmir-test and the threat of external sponsored terrorism in Pakistan.
Dar repeated Pakistan’s persecution of peace through diplomacy and dialogue to repeat Islamabad’s obligation to the UN Charter.
He pointed to the recent high-level debates on multilateralism and peaceful dispute resolution-as well as the meeting on non-OIC cooperation convened during Pakistan’s presidency-as proof of the country’s active commitment to global peace efforts.
