Islamabad:
Islamabad High Court (IHC) has planned consultation on the petitions that challenge the controversial prevention of electronic crimes (PECA) Amendment Act 2025.
Justice Raja Inaam Ameen Minhas takes the petitions on September 18.
Previously, Justice Minhas had held a hearing on July 7, when the arguments had begun, but the court did not set the next consultation date at the time – which has now been announced.
The petitions are filed by PFUJ, TV anchors and Islamabad High Court Journalist’s Association. In the previous consultation, Dr. Yasir Aman, the lawyer of PFUJ, arguments and is also expected to continue them at the next hearing.
The National Assembly on January 23 this year changed the country’s Cyber Crime Act – PECA, 2016 – to the government expanded powers to regulate and control social media platforms in the midst of protests from journalists and real activists.
Several groups and individuals later filed petitions against the amended law in various high courts in the country, including IHC.
