Pittsburgh Steeler’s defensive tackle Cameron Heyward entered the year 15 when training camp started for the team in front of the 2025 season and he is still performing at a high level.

Heyward played all 17 games for Steelers last year and recorded 11 passport-breakups and eight sacks on their way to his fourth first-team all-pro election. But with training camp that opens up and says goodbye to his family for a few weeks, it seems to be harder for the 36-year-old.

He expressed it just as much in a social media post on Wednesday.

“The hardest part of the camp is to kiss my children goodbye,” he wrote at X.

Fortunately for Heyward, he has been with Steelers throughout his career and is unlikely to play elsewhere when it winds. Heyward was born in Pittsburgh, but played football in high school in Georgia before attending Ohio State. Steelers chose him in the first round of the 2011 draft, and he has been in the black and gold ever since.

Heyward has 88.5 bags, 718 tackles and 199 QB hits in 211 matches for Steelers.

He is still ready to start on a defensive line expected to include Rookie Derrick Harmon and Keanu Benton. TJ Watt, Patrick Queen, Payton Wilson and Alex Highsmith are likely to be linebackers behind them.

Steelers were 10-7 in 2024, which made the end game for the fourth time in five years. Despite the fighting violation, the defense was still first -class. Pittsburgh ranked eighth in allowed points and 12. In yards allowed.
