John Legend breaks silence on his family’s role in son Miles’ health struggle

John Legend recently opened about how the family draws closer than ever in the midst of diabetes diagnosis of his son Miles.

In a talk with PEOPLE Magazine at The Hollywood reporter and Social Impact Fund’s 2025 Social Impact Summit Thursday, July 24, 46-year-old American singer-songwriter and pianist shared updates about his 7-year-old son Miles’ health and how he is after being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes by 2024.

The legend said, “The younger people do not really know what is going on, but when they see the devices and things he has to wear, they sometimes have questions.”

“His condition also builds gravel in him, and as a family I think it builds it in us too, because we all gather to support him,” he noted.

Remarkably, the danger of four participated in a diabetes family camp with Miles and spent some time with him earlier this month when he sent a carousel of photos on his Instagram.

“I took Miles on a boys’ trip to a wonderful diabetes family camp @dyf_t1d. Loved having one-on-a-time time with him on Yosemite,” he wrote the post.

“And it was so cool for him to be around a bunch of children of his age and advisers with diabetes. I learned a lot and I am so grateful to everyone involved,” that A woman’s man Crooner concluded.
