New -Connections Today (Play #776) – The answers

The answers to today’s connections, game #776, is …
- Yellow: Herbs and Spices Anise, dild, mace, sage
- Green: Shadows of Green Bottle, Hunter, Kelly, Pea
- Blue: Travel on foot Hike, March, Tramp, Trek
- Purple: Start of European capitals Cope, Luxe, Sara, Wars
- My rating: Hard
- My score: 2 Errors
As a person who likes a good hike up a hillside, I am very familiar with the many alternative ways of describing a long walk – or traveling on foot as connections put it.
If I want to tempt a companion to join me, I will use the word trek, with its implications of adventure if they are more sporty than me (99% of people) and I will ask if they want a bay if they are slower (1% of people). However, I can’t imagine who I would ask to go for a tramp.
Herbs and spices were just as easy, but that’s where my fun ended.
With eight words back I was clueless. The only link I could make was Pea Green and Bottle Green, and after a few mistakes managed to form a group.
Even with the purple group ended for me, it took a google before I realized that Sara was for Sarajevo and Luxe for the capital of Luxembourg, also called Luxembourg.
Yesterday’s new -connections Reply (Friday, July 25, Game #775)
- Yellow: HUSH-HUSH Mother, private, quiet, secret
- Green: State abbreviations I, ma, oh, ok
- Blue: Baseball call Ball, fair, error
- Purple: Queen __ Bed, Bi, Mary, Mother
What are new connections?
New Connections is one of several increasingly popular word games made by the New York Times. It challenges you to find groups of four objects that share something in common, and each group has another level of difficulty: green is light, yellow a little harder, blue often quite hard and purple usually very difficult.
On the plus side, you do not have to technically solve the last one, as you can answer one by an elimination process. In addition, you can make up to four errors, giving you a little bit of breathing room.
However, it is a little more involved than something like Wordle, and there are plenty of opportunities for the game to get up with tricks. For example, be careful on gay and other word games that can hide the answers.
It can be played free of charge via the new Games website on desktop or mobile.
