Cheryl Burke celebrates his seven years of sobriety on his social media with a touching post.
The Dance with the stars Pro went to her Instagram account to mark the milestone and shared that she has been given “presence. Peace. Self-respect” in her sobering journey.
“7 years ago I thought sobriety would mean losing everything. The funny. The Freedom. The fearless version of me I thought, first appeared after a drink,” she began sharing more snaps throughout her journey.
Cheryl continued to say, “But what I wasn’t aware of the time … was that the escape I wanted was really from myself. And the girl I ran from? She was the one waiting to save me. I used to believe that alcohol gave me confidence, connection and control. It turns out that it stole these things quiet – day by day – until I could not recognize my own reflection.”
“Today I no longer chase chaos dressed as fun. I no longer tolerate connections that require me to give up myself. And I no longer make a mistake in numbness for peace. What I thought I would miss in soberness? Was never real to begin with. I have got … presence. Peace. Self -respect,” she noted.
“And a relationship with my higher power that reminds me that I never walked alone – not even in my darkest moments,” she added as she concluded her caption and said, “Here’s for 7 years sober. Here is to choose clarity, whole and me. One day, one hour, one minute at a time.”
