Desktops used to be standard for affordable computing that offers more power, lighter upgrades and better value.
Components can be replaced, memory rose and repaired parts when needed – which is much harder to do with laptops that typically have elements such as memory lot in place.
But if you are in the market for a budget -pc, you may not consider considering a desktop case, Dell now offers a 15 -inch laptop for just $ 250.
Far cheaper than a desk
Dell 15 -bearable computer is currently $ 130 cheaper than its usual $ 379.99 requested price. That’s almost half of the price of Dell’s cheapest desktop, $ 439 Optiplex 3000 thin client. Nor is it just about costs.
Standard laptop configuration comes with Windows 11 Home, an AMD Ryzen 3 7320U processor, 8 GB LPDDR5 memory and a 512 GB SSD. It also includes a 15.6-inch full HD 120Hz screen, Wi-Fi and ports for basic connection, including a USB 3.2 Gen 1 port, a USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 port, a USB 2.0 port and a universal sound plug.
The OptiPlex desktop does not run Windows, it uses rather Dells Thinos, only has 64 GB onboard storage and lacks Wi-Fi completely.
It is intended for narrow business environments, not general use, so for the average buyer it is difficult to recommend unless they are locked in a specific setup.
Looking beyond that, Dell’s next Windows-clear desktops starts at $ 599.99. Dell Slim Desktop includes a Core Ultra 5 processor, 16 GB DDR5 memory and a 512 GB SSD. It offers more power, but also costs more than twice as much as the laptop.
Dell Tower Desktop for $ 749.99 bumps with a core Ultra 7 -Chip, 32 GB RAM and a 1 TB SSD. But again, it’s triple the price.
For most users, especially students, owners of small businesses or relaxed users, these upgrades may not be needed anyway.
$ 250 dell 15 -bearable computer delivers a full experience covering everything from web browsing to easy productivity.
Desktops still make sense for users who of course need expansion or maximum performance, but at the low end the gap closes quickly. In some cases it may already be gone.
