Chand Nagar Cultural Center is proud to announce the first Pakistani adaptation ever of a Pulitzer award-winning stage game, “Doubt: a parable” performed on July 26 and 27 at Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai Auditorium in Islamabad.
This production is the Urdu translation of the play by John Patrick Shanley, translated by director and theater educator Imran Iftikhar and Adil Yousaf. Iftikhar expressed his enthusiasm and gratitude for being allowed to adapt and arrange this masterpiece. “I share this news with tremendous pride and gratitude that I have formally obtained permission from John Patrick Shanley-Pulitzer award-winning playwright and Oscar-award-winning screenwriter to translate, customize and stage his masterpiece’s theater game, doubt: a parable, for the Islamabad audience in Urdu,” he shared.
The play, “Doubt: A parable”, was written by American playwright John Patrick Shanley in 2004. It was adapted to a mystery -Thiller movie entitled “Doubt” in 2008 starring in Hollywood’s famous actor Meryl Streep. The film received critical recognition and highlighted the powerful story and themes of the play.
“Doubt: A parable” explores the complexity of human nature that covers them in themes of faith, doubt, power and morality. Put in a small city school in Punjab, the play raises questions about truth, silence and the gray areas in between. With its exciting plot and effective characters, this production promises to be a thought -provoking experience for the audience.
IMRAN IFTIKHAR also added, “This is not only a milestone for me as an instructor and translator, but a historic moment of Pakistani theater. As far as I know, this is the first time that a Pulitzer award-winning plays are officially produced in Pakistan. “He hopes that” This production opens new doors for International Theater in Pakistan and triggers critical conversations about ethics, education and truth. “
Chand Nagar Cultural Center is dedicated to telling bold, thought -provoking and relevant stories through theater and art in Islamabad and Rawalpindi. The play is translated into Urdu by Adil Yousaf, directed by Imran IFTIKHAR and contains a role crew of young theater actors from Twin Cities. “Doubt: A parable” is brought to life by Chand Nagar Cultural Center with the aim of creating a platform for meaningful storytelling and cultural exchange.
