Microsoft has reportedly corrected an error in Windows 11 that caused the mouse cursor to supersize himself in an annoying way in certain circumstances.
Windows latest explained the nature of the error and gave a video illustrating the strange behavior. It shows that the mouse pointer is at its standard size (which is ‘1’ in the slider in settings for the mouse), and yet the cursor is clearly far greater than it should be.
When Windows latest manipulates the slider to make the mouse pointer larger and then return it to a size of ‘1’, the cursor ends up being corrected and back to normal. Apparently, this question manifests itself after resuming from sleep on a Windows 11 -PC.
Windows latest says this error has been kicking around since Windows 11 24h2 first arrived (last October), but the question has not been a constant thorn in its side. Apparently it has only happened now and again – but nonetheless it has been a continued irritation.
But no longer, for apparently with the July update to Windows 11, the problem is solved.
Analysis: Mice mean something
Oddly enough, Microsoft never acknowledged this problem, though other Windows 11 users certainly have – Windows latest has not been alone in suffering in the hands of this error.
I have seen a few reports on Reddit about the problem, and some posters have experienced the supersized marker after restarting their machine instead of returning from hibernation (and there are similar complaints about Microsoft’s own help forums).
Whatever is the case, the question seems to be pretty random about when or whether it occurs, but the common is a form of state change for the PC in terms of sleeping or restarting.
While the mouse pointer who changes size may not sound like the big deal, it is actually pretty disturbing. As Windows latest observes, having a supersized cursor can make it fiddlier and more difficult to choose smaller menu items in apps or Windows 11 yourself.
And if you were not aware of the said solution – to go into the settings app, find the slider in the size of the mouse and adjust it – you may end up restarting your PC to heal the problem. And that is, if a reboot actually solves things because, as some others have noticed, reboot can also cause the problem.
This was an annoying mistake, so it’s good to hear that it’s now apparently resolved with the latest update to Windows 11.
