Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian is ready to visit Pakistan on August 2nd (Saturday) for a two-day official trip on invitation from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Iran’s state Irna news agency reported Wednesday.
The visit was confirmed by President Pezeshkian’s political adviser, Mehdi Sanai, in a post of X. “Dr. Pezeshkian travels to Pakistan on Saturday night, August 2, on invitation from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif,” he said.
According to Sanai, President Pezeshkian will hold official meetings with Pakistani leadership and participate in discussions with prominent cultural and business figures during his stay in Islamabad.
The Iranian official noted that the visit is aiming to strengthen the multidimensional relationship between the two neighbors who span political, economic, religious and cultural spheres. Improvement of provincial and border work and increased bilateral trade – currently appreciated at $ 3 billion – is among the most important goals for the trip.

This will mark President Pezeshkian’s first visit to Pakistan and the second of an Iranian president for the past two years. His predecessor, the late President Ebrahim Raisi, visited Pakistan in April 2024, only weeks before his tragic death in a helicopter accident.
Pakistan and Iran share many years of ties that are rooted in geography, religion and regional cooperation. Last month, Islamabad expressed strong support to Tehran during his short but intense conflict with Israel, where both countries exchanged missile information for almost two weeks.
During a phone call after the crisis, President Pezeshkian expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Shehbaz for Pakistan’s “consistent and principled” support.
Pakistan had repeated his support for Iran on various international forums, including the United Nations Security Council and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

In May, shortly before the Iran-Israel scaling, Prime Minister Shehbaz visited a two-day visit to Tehran, where he referred to Iran as his “second home” and thanked the Iranian leadership for his support under Pakistan’s tension with India.
During this journey, the Prime Minister also confirmed Pakistan’s support for Iran’s peaceful nuclear program and said, “We stand with our Iranian brothers and confirm our support for Iran’s peaceful nuclear program.”
The two leaders also held a meeting on the sidelines of the 17th Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Summit in Khankendi, Azerbaijan earlier this year.
