- The founder of Pebble Smartwatches has taken Pebble -name
- Upcoming watches from his core units will be renamed to
- The first new Pebble Watch is now expected to be launched in August
If you miss the old days of pebble, you are lucky as the Smartwatch brand that started it all makes an unexpected comeback. This means that it may not last long before you can beat a pebble watch on your wrist, as if it’s 2015 again.
Pebble was originally founded by Eric Migicovsky, who now operates core units, which followed Pebble when it shut down in 2016. Although Migicovsky previously revealed he was working on two new watches based on the Open Source Pebbleos operating system, they should be manufactured under core units. Now it’s all changed.
Writing on his blog explained to Migicovsky that he had been able to regain the Pebble brand, which will now be incorporated into upcoming products. And it looks like the company doesn’t waste time as its Core 2 Duo and Core Time 2 Smartwatches have both been renamed Pebble 2 Duo and Pebble Time 2.
However, there is also no ready for launch, with the former shipment to beta users and the latter who undergo technical verification tests (possibly). But for anyone excited by the Pebble brand, the name change alone will be enough to get the heart racing.
Shipment in August
Wanna get your hands on one of these redirected watches? You can pre-order both from Core Devices’ Repebble site. The devices still use the old “core” names, and presumably this will be updated shortly. Pebble 2 duo is available for $ 149, while core time 2 can be ordered for $ 225.
In his blog post, Migicovsky wrote that his company hopes to start sending Pebble 2 duo at the end of August (a delay from its original July estimate). Team-up is due to testing of an improved waterproofing assessment, while a speaker has also been added that must also be watered.
There is an extra hitch with order: Tariffs. Migicovsky says you will be charged about $ 10 per day. Pebble 2 -duo if you order from the US. Non-American orders will not be affected by tariffs as the units are sent from Hong Kong.
Migicovsky has also tested Pebble 2 Duo’s Bluetooth series (in a “super unscientific” way, he admits) and says it hits about 140 meters in outdoor surroundings. On a street with buildings, the range is a little longer.
The blog post also mentioned a handful of updates to Pebble Time 2. Since the clock is in the possibility of making, it is a little too early to start thinking about shipping dates.
Still, with the Pebble name that made a comeback almost a decade after it stopped being sold, Smartwatch fans will undoubtedly be excited about further news. We are watching more in the meantime.
