Country acquisition of M-6 to begin this month

Islamabad:

National Highway Authority (NHA) informed the National Assembly’s Standing Committee for Communication that soil uptake for M-6 Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway project was expected to commence within a month.

The M-6 project is scheduled to begin in April 2026 with funding from the Islamic Development Bank (IDB). NHA told the committee that it has requested prior purchase approval from the bank and added that it would formally write to the Sindh government to initiate procedures for acquisition of land.

The committee, which met here with Aijaz Hussain Jakhrani in the chairman, underwent a number of crucial infrastructure projects aimed at improving national connection and road safety. The meeting also reviewed the Ministry’s response to its previous recommendations.

The Committee expressed dissatisfaction with the absence of the Ministry of Communications Secretary and issued a strict warning that repeated non-participation would be brought to the House and Privilege Committee for the necessary action.

Participants expressed concern about the NHA’s third road tax increase within a short period of time and said the increase seemed to contradict NHA’s policy on rate audits every three years. The committee instructed NHA to give a detailed reason for the next meeting.

The General Inspector (IG) for the motorway police informed the committee on the legal framework under which cases were registered against motorists, which exceeded the speed limit of 150 kilometers per hour on highways.
