Rahim Yar Khan: At least five policemen were martyrated and two others wounded when armed bandits attacked a police checkpost in Rahim Yar Khan’s District in Punjab late Thursday night.

A police officer said that heavily armed Dacoit’s targeted Shekhani -Checkpost, martyring of five elite force staff and injured two other police.

During an exchange of fire, a dacoit was also killed, the spokesman said.

The martyred police were identified as Muhammad Irfan, Muhammad Saleem, Muhammad Khalil, Nakheel and Ghazanfar Abbas.

Two of the slain policemen belonged to Rahim Yar Khan, while the remaining three came from the Bahawalnagar district.

With a strict notice of the incident, Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) has Dr. Usman Anwar called a report from the regional police officer (RPO) Bahawalpur and issued strict instructions to DPO Rahim Yar Khan to arrest the guilty involved in the attack on Elite Force staff in the Katcha region.

Dr. Anwar paid tribute to killed officers and said their victim would not be forgotten and described their martyrdom as a mark of “great courage and duty”.

“Bandits launched a fair attack at night at night,” he said, adding that such feige acts could not shake the morals of the police.

The Punjab Chief of Police said police operation against the river criminal groups will continue with full strength and determination, emphasizing that those responsible will be brought to court.
