Punjab/ Rahim Yar Khan:
At least five police officers were martyrated after armed bandits in the Katcha area attacked a police checkpoint in Rahim Yar Khan, the Punjab police said Friday.
About 40 bandits, armed with rocket throwers and grenades, attacked Sheikhani Police’s checkpoint, located between Mahi Chowk and Sewetra Chowk near Guddu-Kashmore Road on Thursday night, according to IGP Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar.
“Police officers for the elite force, namely Muhammad Irfan, Muhammad Saleem, Nukhail, Constable Khalil and Ghazanfar, were martyrated,” his office states. The first three officers were from Bahawalnagar, while the other two were from Rahim Yar Khan.
A bandit was also killed when police reciprocated, the statement added. The attackers fled the scene, but police, led by DPO Irfan Ali Samo, have sealed all the entry-exit points to the area.
