MLB News: Braves, Reds scores 16 races in wild eighth inning

Atlanta Braves and Cincinnati Reds combined for 16 races in a wild eighth lap in Braves ’12 -11 Extra-Interior victory on Thursday night at Great American Ball Park.

The two teams went into the eighth inning tied 3-3. Braves began the lap with three infield hits and continued to mash through the frame.

They scored their eight races at the top of the eighth round against four different red throwers and did it without hitting a home drive.

The reds on the other hand trusted the long ball to help them cut into an 11-3 deficit at the bottom of the eighth lap.

The first eight reds fought everyone reached the base, and they hit two three-run home runs. Third Baseman Ke’bryan Hayes hit his first home drive since he was acquired by Reds, and the first Baseman Spencer controlled the game on 11-11 with a three-race explosion. All eight races of the reds were scored before they even recorded one out.

In total, there were seven jugs, 25 butchers and 16 hits in eighth combined between the two teams. It was the third time that both teams had scored eight-Plus running in the same lap, according to Elias Sports Bureau.

Braves eventually won the game for extra laps as designated hitter Marcell Ozuna hit a sacrificial fly at the top of the tenth lap to move on 12-11.

Braves closer Raisel Iglesias struck a clean bottom of the 10th round to earn its 13th rescue of the season.

Thursday’s game between Reds (57-53) and Braves (46-62) was the first of a three-game series. The two teams will play next Friday at. 12:40 ET.
