We expect the iPhone 17 series to be launched sometime during September, including iPhone 17 Air – apparently a replacement for the iPhone 16 Plus. Now a new leak claims to show the battery that will be mounted inside the air model.
Pictures of this battery have been sent by the well-known tipster Majin BU (via 9TO5MAC) and it comes closed in a steel frame that matches the iPhone 16 Pro approach. Of special note is how thin the battery is, from front to back.
According to BU, the battery capacity is about 2,900 mAh, which is close to the 2,800 mAh figure we have heard from previous rumors. In comparison, there is a 3,561 mAh battery inside the current iPhone 16, so we look at a significant drop.
Given improvements in the battery’s lifetime technology and adjustments to be introduced with iOS 26, reports suggest that the iPhone 17 air should still give you a day of battery life even with the ultra-slim profile and reduced capacity battery.

If the rumors are to be believed, the iPhone 17 air measures only 5.5 mm, at the front of the back. It is much slimmer than 7.8 mm iPhone 16, and it even beats the newly launched Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge, which is 5.8 mm thick.
Ever since we heard that an iPhone 17 air was on the way, there has been concern about the life of the battery. Putting together a super -slim phone is all good and good, but it means less space for the battery and other internal components.
However, we know that iPhones can traditionally get more battery life out of less battery capacity because Apple develops its hardware and software in Tandem – so let’s hope that the usual trick can be repeated with iPhone 17 air.
It should be revealed together with the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max during September. Apple has not said anything official, but well-placed sources have pointed out at 8-10. September as the most likely dates.
