Luka Doncic does not test the free agency market. Instead, the five-time NBA All-Star has accepted a contract extension that will bind him to Los Angeles Lakers through 2028.
Doncic and Lakers completed a three-year maximum contract extension. ESPN reported, citing an agent that the deal was worth $ 165 million. Lakers do not public the details of contracts.
The previous contact of the Slovenian superstar included a player setting for the 2026-27 campaign.

Doncic responded to the new contract on social media.

“I just signed my expansion with Lakers. Tightened to continue bringing championships to LA and making Laker Nation proud,” wrote the NBA scoring champion in 2024 on X. “Grateful to Lakers, my teammates and all fans who have shown so much love since day one. This is just the beginning.”

Lakers acquired Doncic from Dallas Mavericks last February in a shocking blockbuster trade for Anthony Davis.
The five-time all-NBA selection was an average of 28.2 points, 8.2 assists and 7.7 rebounds per year. Fight last season while working with LeBron James for 50 wins and the third seed of the Western Conference Playoffs.

Lakers were eliminated from the autumn period after dropping four games to Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round.
Despite the early playoff output, Doncic is ready to return to Los Angeles in the fall with James, which begins his unprecedented 23rd NBA season.
But the Doncic-James duo could also take advantage of a renewed Lakers list in the 2025-26 season. Doncic played a significant role in Los Angeles’ successful bid to sign Deandre Ayton and Marcus Smart, and persuaded the two veterans to merge in the upcoming season.
