Seven suspects booked to lawyer’s targeted murder

A murder case has been recorded at the Darakhshan police station about the targeted murder of prominent lawyer Khawaja Shams-UL-Islam, which was shot outside a mosque in DHA.

FIR, filed by the victim’s brother Khawaja Faiz-Ul-Islam, calls out sections related to murder, terrorism, criminal conspiracy and other serious offenses. According to police, seven men have been nominated in the case, which stems from a brave gun attack done in broad daylight.

The incident took place on Friday when Khawaja Shams-Ul-Islam left the Qur’an’s Academy Mosque in DHA-Phase 6, Khayaban-E-Rahat, after offering Friday prayers and attending a funeral. He was accompanied by his sons-Khawaja Daniyal-Ul-Islam and Khawaja Hamza-Ul-Islam-Collect a private security guard and a police card. As he fell down on the mosque’s stairs, drawing the primary suspect, Imran Afridi, son of Nabi Yellow Afridi, allegedly benefit of the crowd and opened fire. One bullet hit Khawaja Shams-Ul-Islam while another hit his son Daniyal-Ul-Islam.

Hamza-Ul-Islam immediately rushed his wounded father to South City Hospital. Despite the reception of medical treatment, Khawaja Shams-UL-Islam banged for his injuries. Meanwhile, Daniyal-Ul-Islam was moved to Akuh.

FIR also refers to a previous attack on November 14, 2024, when Imran Afridi and 15 to 20 armed accomplices allegedly attacked Shams-UL-Islam. This incident involved shots and physical violence and was reported at the Clifton police station.

Sindh Bar Council has condemned the murder of the senior Supreme Court’s lawyer Khawaja Shams-UL-Islam and announced a provincial boycott of trial on August 4th.

Sindh wore Council Vice President Shafqat Rahim and chairman of the Executive Committee Muhammad Saeed expressed indignation over the failure of the law enforcement authorities. They declared that it is deeply regrettable that the nominated suspect has not been arrested despite having confessed to the murder.

Khawaja Shams-Ul-Islam’s family also receives serious threats that highlight apathy for the law enforcement.
