Aaron Boones New York Yankees has received plenty of criticism of late, including from some team legends.
Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez served in their roles as Fox Sports commentators on Saturday when they settled in their former team, where the latter asked, “Where is the accountability?” They referred to the team’s recent mental mistakes, which included a jazz Chisholm Jr. Baserunning -Error Saturday.
However, Boone defended his players on Sunday morning when Yankees looked to save a game against Miami Marlins, a team they expected to deal with over the weekend on the road.

“Look, we’re Yankees and when we lose games, if it’s in and about a mistake, that criticism is far,” Boone said via the New York Post. “It’s fair game, I assume. At the end of the day we have the pieces I think is a really good team and it is on me and all of us to make the most of it.
“I would disagree a little with the responsibility factor. But the reality is that every day we are focused on being the best we can be. That’s how we have to do it. But I understand when it doesn’t happen or we don’t have the record I think we should have, or definitely people think we should have, it comes with the territory. It is on us to change that thought.”

Boone added that when it comes to accountability, more things are said and performed behind the scenes rather than on the camera under presses.
Jeter said under the Fox Sports Team’s panel at the MLB Speedway Classic in Bristol, Tennessee, he did not think this Yankee team is built for a World Series -Backwoman after being there in 2024.
“They make too many mistakes … you can’t get away with making this number of mistakes against big teams,” he said.
Rodriguez added, “If any of us made a mistake we would sit our ass right on the bench.”

Yankees had just played Friday night and jumped three different leads-6-0, 9-4 and 12-10 at the bottom of the ninth lap to lose to Marlins, 13-12. Nor was it a big sign for Yankee’s fans who were excited after seeing the bullpen reinforcements added before the MLB trading deadline.
Jake Bird, David Bednar and Camilo Doval, all new pieces for Yankees to insert, combined for nine races abandoned. Also in the ninth lap, Jose Caballero, who got into a trade with Tampa Bay Rays, started a ground ball to the right field that tied the game and let Marlins’ Xavier Edwards come to the third base for a potential walk-off that happened on the next bat.
Then, Saturday night, Chisholm was doubled on a pop-up as he was not aware.
“I see mistakes after mistakes and there are no consequences,” Rodriguez said.
Yankees (60-51) is now third place in Al East after Boston Red Sox (62-51) rose to the position by winning eight of its last 10 games. They are 3.5 games left on the divisional Toronto Blue Jays (65-47).

New York still owns a wild-card site from Sunday, although teams like Seattle Mariners, Texas Rangers, which they will see next on the schedule, and Cleveland Guardians are fighting for the three slots.
“You can’t keep doing so,” Jeter said of the mistakes. “You have to clean up. I mean it’s so simple, there are no excuses … you have to play better. If you don’t play better, you won’t go very far.”
