Islamabad:
Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted a wet week for the country’s upper and central regions, driven by weak monsoon streams to be intensified Monday (today), followed by strengthening a western wave Tuesday (tomorrow).
According to PMD’s National Weather Forecast Center, rain winds and thunderstorms are expected with isolated heavy falls in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK); Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Punjab and Islamabad until Thursday.
“More rain with wind-thunder shower predicted in the coming week,” it said. “Weak monsoon streams are continuously entering the upper/central parts of the country and are likely to be intensified from August 4th. A Western wave is likely to strengthen on August 5th.”
Under the influence of these weather conditions, the PMD alarm, rain winds/thunder wind/thunder wind with isolated tongue fall are expected in Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur in Ajk.
From August 5-7, rain winds/thunderstorms are expected with isolated heavy falls with occasional holes in Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghande, Shigar in GB, PMD forecasts.

Rain-Wind/Thundershower is also probably in DG Khan, Bhakkar, Layyah, Multan and Bahawalpur on Wednesday, August 6th.
For the rest of the country, PMD predicts mainly hot and humid weather in most parts of Balochistan, albeit rain winds/thunderstorms in northeast/southern parts, including Barkhan, Musakhel, Loralai, Sibbi, Zhob, Qilla Saifullah and Khuzdar on Wednesday.
PMD warned that heavy rain can generate flash flooding in local nullahs of chitral, dir, swat, Shangla, mansehra, kohistan, abbottabad, buner, charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi, Marre, Murree, Galliyat, Rawalpindi, North-East Punjab and Ajk.
It also warned of urban floods in low -lying areas of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore and Sialkot during the week.
PMD said the prevailing weather conditions increase the risk of flooding of glacies and floods (GLOFs), flash floods and landslides in vulnerable glacier regions in GB.
