Olympic sprinters Noah Lyles and Kenny Bednarek had some leisure activity during and after, a tense 200 meter race on Sunday.

The couple with two-time Olympics fought for it in an unforgettable race where Lyles again won the American championship in Eugene, Oregon.

Lyles, the reigning 100-meter gold medalist and three-time 200 meters world champion, came back from behind to defeat Bednarek and the rest of the field and cross the finish line of 19.63 seconds, four hundredths of another faster than Bednarek.

Before crossing the line, however, Lyles turned towards Bednarek and stared him down as they finished the race, which got a push at Bednarek. Lyles stopped and turned before Bednarek apparently realized his mistake and stretched his hand out to a handshake.

Lyles obliged.

Maybe Lyles felt a need to celebrate considering what happened in Paris last summer – days after Lyles won gold for 100 meters, he was aiming to become the first American runner since Carl Lewis in 1988 to win double in the Olympics. 200 meters have always been Lyles’ specialty.

However, he is content with bronze when he revealed that he was fighting for Covid -19 – Bednarek won silver.

Despite their handshake, there was still some bad blood between the two during a joint interview with NBC.

“I’ll tell you if you have a problem, I expect a call,” Bednarek said as the network’s Lewis Johnson moved the microphone between the runners.

Lyles replied, “You know what, you’re right. You’re right. Let’s talk after this.”

It didn’t stop there – Bednarek made several comments after both runners left the field.

“What he said didn’t do anything, that’s just what he did,” Bednarek said. “Unsurprisingly (expressive), and I don’t handle it. It’s a respect factor. He’s fresh. The last time we lined it up, I punched him, that’s all I can say. The next time we set up, I will win. That’s all that matters.”

Bednarek referred to some long -end problems between the two.

“Just some personal things we have to deal with,” he said.

This is not the first time Lyles has had a beef with a colleague US runner. He and Fredd Kerley have also exchanged verbal pleasures over the past year plus.

Of course, Lyles has also had a apparent rivalry with Tirek Hill.
