- Microsoft OneNenote finally gets the opportunity to insert without formatting
- You can use the usual keyboard shortcuts or right -click
- Windows, Mac and Browser -Versions get all the update
Microsoft has finally added what we would reasonably expect to be a core function, saving a lot of unnecessary trouble that users have to tackle so far.
From August 2025, OneNote now supports text that has only been inserted or inserted without formatting “inconsistent fonts, awkward background colors or unwanted styles” will no longer come over if you do not want them.
Fortunately, you don’t have to do anything special to activate the feature, just use the same keyboard shortcuts you are already using in other apps to copy the text only: Ctrl+Shift+V (Windows) or CMD+SHIFT+V (MAC).
OneNote has finally deployed without formatting option
Apart from the keyboard shortcut, users can also place the cursor in OneNote, right -click, select Insert Settings and click only ‘Hold Text’.
“No more inconsistent fonts, awkward background colors, or unwanted styles when you draw information from other apps – instead of bringing content into OneNote as regular text that automatically matches your notebooks look and feel,” explained OneNote Product Manager Bola Soneye in a blog post.
Windows Version 2508 (Build 19101.10000) or later and Mac Build 16,100 (25080335) or later access both the core function as well as the web version of OneNote, but it could be rolled out to insiders first so that other users may have to wait a short time to get it.
It is possible that Microsoft decided not to focus on format -free efforts because the app was designed for research notes where the preservation of formatting could have been useful, but due to high demand, the company has finally added a feature that should have been part of OneNote right from the beginning.
