- Epic has made its lightweight anti-cheat tool compatible with windows on arm
- This means online games that use the tool work with arm -based laptops
- It includes Fortnitewhich becomes one of the first games to implement this support for Snapdragon X (Arm) Chips
If you have a Copilot+ laptop with a Qualcomm Snapdragon X (ARM) processor that you also use for gaming tasks, here’s some good news: one of the biggest tripping blocks for players on the arm has now been banished.
As Thurrott.com reports, Epic has done well on its promise to make its lightweight anti-cheat (EAC) tool compatible with Windows on the arm (the version of Microsofts OS, installed on Copilot+ PCS with arm chips, as opposed to AMD or Intel Silicon).
The move comes with the new version of the epic online services SDK (for game developers), which can now boast EAC compatibility to offer “secure multiplayer experiences on arm-based Windows 11 devices”, as Epic Notes.
EAC is used by some Big-Name online games to wipe out problem players who use various shady tricks or exploitation, and the lack of compatibility with the anti-cheat system meant that these games did not work at all on arm-based laptops.
Mentioned games include epic’s Fortnite Among other online shooters (Apex LegendsAt Pubgand more), as well as like Elden Ring.
Analysis: The ball is now in the developer court
Epic previously promised that it would make EAC work with Windows on arm back in March 2025, and what we see here is the necessary work implemented in the said SDK (software development kit).
However, it is not the end of this story – not quite. It is now up to game developers to incorporate the support into their titles, and Epic will be on the ball itself in that regard when it comes to bringing support Fortnite.
A spokesman for Qualcomm told Thurrott.com: “Fortnite Will be among the first titles to benefit from this compatibility, bringing one of the world’s most popular games to Snapdragon-driven laptops. “
In any case, support will gradually filter through a number of gaming-hops pretty fast-and this will remove one of the black marks in the ‘Courage’ for arm-based laptops.
These devices running Snapdragon X -Chips can make a good enough effort to run even more demanding games – remember the early days of being impressed with these notebooks running Baldur’s Gate 3 in 4k.
Being unable to play lightweight anti-cheat games on these machines was a remarkable weakness, and especially with FortniteGiven that this is a popular choice for portable players (and not a demanding title), it was a shame to see it out of the grip of those with arm-based copilot+ PCs-but it will not be the case for much longer.
