Wilson, who turned 19 this week, talked enthusiastically about his movement from Victoria, Australia, to the United States.

“It really fits my skill set and in general,” Wilson told journalists on Tuesday. “It is the coach, the people and the program that makes the program it, it is that just told me that this was the place to be.”

Wilson said he became well acquainted with the “cultural side” in America and has a relatively good understanding of Nebraska and added, “I knew the program, so I wasn’t quite forget where I was going to live for the next four years.”

But Freshman Punter was emotional when asked about his family and how he manages to be so far from home.

“Yes, that part is tough. I’m sorry,” Wilson said as he paused by feelings.

“Yes, I love them a lot. I have two little brothers and my mom and dad and I – yes, that’s the hard part of being here. I love them very much and I miss them. But they know that’s what’s best for me.”

Wilson added that he remains in constant communication with his family and that relatives will take a trip to Nebraska to watch his first few matches, the first of which will be played at home at Kansas City Chiefs.

“I’m really excited. I usually don’t get too nervous when it comes to things. This is a completely different level but I’m more excited. Huge crown. Arrowhead. Thursday night. It won’t be much bigger.”

Wilson played Australian rules football for Haileybury College before coming to Nebraska this summer. He was also a member of Prokick Australia, who according to the school’s website has had 29 players to attend Nfl and cfl.

Nebraska opens its season at Arrowhead Stadium against Cincinnati bearcats August 28.
