The legendary Denver Bronco’s wide recipient Lionel Taylor died at the age of 89 August, the team announced on Wednesday.
“An original bronco and one of the most dominant players in his era, Taylor had a huge impact on the franchise in his seven seasons in Denver (1960-66),” the team said in a message.
“Our hearts go out to Taylor’s family and friends.”

Taylor completed his seven-year career in Denver as the early leader in receptions (543), received yards (6,872) and Touchdown receptions (44). Taylor held the first two items for more than 30 years and still ranks in the top five in all three categories.
He became the first recipient in the AFL or NFL story that has at least 100 receptions in one season.

Taylor never caught fewer than 76 passports and average more than 80 catches a year during his first six seasons. His 84.7 catches per Season from 1960-65 ranked as the highest six-year-old total in football history at the time. During the same period, Taylor first ranked in AFL/NFL in receptions (508), third in receipt of yards (6,424) and eighth in Touchdown receipts (43).
Taylor was among the four original inductors in the Denver Broncos Ring of Fame in 1984.

When Pittsburgh Steeler’s wide recipients train for seven seasons, he won two Super Bowl rings and worked with Hall of Fame recipients Lynn Swann and John Stallworth. Taylor then worked as both the broad recipient coach and offensive coordinator of Los Angeles Rams.
