- IPhone 17 -luft may have an A19 -Pro -chipset
- But it could have a smaller GPU core than the iPhone 17 Pro
- It can also have a worse screen and battery
The rumored iPhone 17 Air is an exciting handset as it could be a big hit for Apple or a colossal failure, depending on how good Apple balances its building with its specifications and on how much people are taking a super-slim iPhone. The latest leak suggests that Apple may not have got the balance right for me.
According to Fast Focus Digital – a delicious with a reasonable track record – posting on Weibo (via Gsmarena), the iPhone 17 Air has an A19 Pro chipset, as well as iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max. Apart from, it won’t be quite the same here as this source claims that Air’s version will have five GPU kernels, while the version used by the Pro phones has six.
It’s left to see how much difference will make, but it would mean that the iPhone 17 air is less powerful than the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max-Dog still probably more powerful than the base iPhone 17, which will reportedly have a non-pro version of A19.
Battery, screen and camera compromises
But this is not Air’s only rumor compromise, as the same source also says it will have a worse screen and battery than the iPhone 17 Pro.
They do not become specific here in terms of the ways in which they are worse, but presumably it means a lower battery capacity. As for the screen, it is probably a reference to a previous claim they made that the base iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air would not have a variable update frequency, and in return, therefore, probably would not have an always-on-screen self they will at least seem to have 120Hz screens.
So that’s a lot of compromises, and – combined with the iPhone 17 Air probably just having a rear camera – this would almost certainly be too much of a compromise for me. Really, it seems that only those who value aesthetics over everything else would choose to buy the air.
Still, there may be many buyers like that, with fixed focus digital that predicts the iPhone 17 air will be a hit. So it will be interesting to see how good it actually does. We had to find out in September as it is when the entire iPhone 17 series is expected to be launched.
