Global Compassion Pours In When Floods Destroy Pakistan

Several countries, including Saudi Arabia, Iran, Russia and Kuwait, have expanded compassion and expressed solidarity with Pakistan in the wake of catastrophic Monsun floods that have left at least 313 people dead and caused widespread destruction in parts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Kingdom of Saudi -Arabia conveyed the kingdom’s “sincere compassion and sympathy” to the government and people in Pakistan over the loss of life caused by flooding and heavy rain.

The ministry confirmed Riyadh’s solidarity with Pakistan in this difficult time and expressed his support to the surviving families and wanted the wounded a rapid recovery.

Separately, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian also expressed his country’s solidarity with Pakistan after the deadly floods.

In an official message to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, President Pezeshkian expanded “the sincere sympathy of the Iranian government and people” and emphasized Tehran’s readiness to provide humanitarian assistance and relief to help relieve the suffering of those affected.

Russia has also expressed deep grief and compassion for the loss of life caused by recent floods in Pakistan.

Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed in a letter addressed to President Asif Ali Zardari grief over the tragic loss of life in KP. He conveyed inner compassion to the deceased’s families and wanted the wounded a quick recovery while expanding his best wishes to the affected communities.

Meanwhile, Kuwaits Foreign Minister Abdullah Al-Yahya called Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar to convey the condolence of Crown Prince Sabah al-Khalid al-Sabah over the tragic loss of life and damage caused by recent floods.

The Kuwaitian Foreign Minister assured that the government and the Kuwait people were ready to expand all support to Pakistan during this challenging time.

Senator Dar expressed gratitude for Kuwait’s gesture and noted that both leaders were looking forward to meeting during the upcoming organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council for Foreign Ministers (CFM) in Jeddah later this month.

The current Monsun Tull Form has led to widespread flooding of flash, landslides and infrastructure damage across several districts in KP, causing emergency preparedness measures from the military, Frontier Corps and disaster control authorities.

The Department of KP Relief has declared an emergency in the districts of Swat, Battagtram, Bajaur, Torghar, Mansehra, Shangla, Lower Dir, Upper Dir and Kohistan, which will remain in force from August 15 to August 31, 2025.
