Avoid traveling to hilly areas: ndma

In the midst of increased risks of landslides and flash floods during the ongoing Monsun season, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) issued public advice that encourages citizens to avoid trips to hilly and disaster-touched regions.

Following directives from the Prime Minister, NDMA has instructed relevant authorities to take immediate action to limit tourist activities in vulnerable areas. Law enforcement authorities in tourist zones have been directed to ensure a strict implementation of the new restrictions.

According to NDMA, the public movement in high-risk areas must be limited under active Monsun trickle forms to protect life and support emergency efforts.

The counseling also notes that section 144 may be enforced if necessary to impose a curate on tourism and maintain public security. Citizens have been encouraged to remain vigilant, avoid non-essential journeys and stay informed through verified official channels.

JAGLOT – The Skardu road remains closed, while routes at Dayan, Thali Baroq and Kalti in Ghizer are fully blocked. Access to Gilgit, Jaglot, Guru and Naltar has also been cut off. Meanwhile, Gilgit -Hunza Corridor, including Gulmit and Gojal, along with Babusar -East Route is completely closed.

NDMA has warned of persistent risks of flooding and landslides in Torthar, Battagram, Shangla, Lower Kohistan, Tata Pani, Gilgit, Hunza and Swat. Tourists and travelers have been asked to postpone non-essential trips and prioritize security until conditions improve.
