Minnesota Vikings’ Kevin O’Connell gave a perfect example of why NFL head coach is not the microphone up on Gameeday.

While other professional sporting events have the microphone moments during live broadcasts, NFL usually saves time for potential edits with it because of some, yes, fruitful language.

But with the NFL in the middle of the Forsy season, Vikings’ broadcast decided to microphone O’Connell to provide more entertainment for the fans looking at home. However, the live interview led to an F-bomb being dropped by the Vikings’ main man.

During the third quarter of the game between the Vikings and the New England Patriots, O’Connell was on the FOX 9 broadcast as he answered a question while seeing a play unfolding.

He didn’t think about censoring himself after seeing something he didn’t like.

“I’m excited about this year’s team and excited about this Play-Call, Fellas,” O’Connell told the TV stations. “We have a quick movement … oh no! F — … it comes back.”

The reason for O’Connell’s explicit was to notice illegal movement on the line with review before the ball was even snapped. So even though the play would have got the Vikings a first down, it was instead called back to the punishment.

It may not have been O’Connell’s first -team violation on the field, but he expects his team to play sound football, no matter who is in the game.

The Vikings ended up losing to the patriots, 20-12, although the expected start-quarterback, 2024 first round pick, JJ McCarthy doesn’t even fit the team’s second trial game.

However, McCarthy has been shining so far in training of camp practices, including joint work with the patriots this week.

McCarthy missed the entire 2024 season before it even began due to a meniscus tear. But O’Connell’s Vikings went a surprising 14-3 with Sam Darnold at the helm. With Darnold now the starting quarterback for Seattle Seahawks, it’s McCarthy’s show on his way into his second year.

O’Connell hopes he doesn’t have to spray so many explosives from the sidelines this season as the Vikings are looking to get back in the playoffs.
