Trump on Sports Teams Change Names with Native American Herit

President Donald Trump turned to the wave of sports teams that underwent name changes in recent years to remove referrals to Native American.

Trump called the name changes “degrading to the Indian population.”

“I think it’s degrading to the Indian population, and it’s a large population and they like when called by different names,” Trump said.

Trump refused to say if he would try to get the Washington commanders to change their name back to Redskins as a condition of building a new stadium on federal property. However, Trump said he thinks Redskins was better than the team’s current name.

“I can tell you that I was talking to people in the Indian heritage who love that name and love that team, and I think it’s a very superior name for what they have right now and it had inheritance behind it it had something special,” Trump said.

“I think it’s really degrading for Native Americans. But changing the name of the Cleveland Indians to Cleveland Guardians, for example to Cleveland Guardians, is not the same and I am sure it has an impact on the team.”

Meanwhile in Long Island is Massapequa High School’s nickname Chiefs, but New York -Loven says that schools must remove logos related to original people by the end of the year.
