President Donald Trump turned to the wave of sports teams that underwent name changes in recent years to remove referrals to Native American.
Trump called the name changes “degrading to the Indian population.”
“I think it’s degrading to the Indian population, and it’s a large population and they like when called by different names,” Trump said.
Trump refused to say if he would try to get the Washington commanders to change their name back to Redskins as a condition of building a new stadium on federal property. However, Trump said he thinks Redskins was better than the team’s current name.

“I can tell you that I was talking to people in the Indian heritage who love that name and love that team, and I think it’s a very superior name for what they have right now and it had inheritance behind it it had something special,” Trump said.
Washington Post released a poll in June that found that 58% of fans By commanders fans said they don’t like the team’s new name.
Trump also paralyzed the decision to rename MLB’s Cleveland Indians to Guardians after the end of the 2021 season.

“They changed the name of the Cleveland Indians. Why should you take the name ‘Indians’ from the Cleveland Indians? And now it’s called Cleveland something else,” Trump said. “So it just doesn’t make sense to me.
“I think it’s really degrading for Native Americans. But changing the name of the Cleveland Indians to Cleveland Guardians, for example to Cleveland Guardians, is not the same and I am sure it has an impact on the team.”
Meanwhile in Long Island is Massapequa High School’s nickname Chiefs, but New York -Loven says that schools must remove logos related to original people by the end of the year.
Massapequa School District defendant the state, but a federal judge issued against the district.
Trump previously spoke in support of the school’s right to maintain his name.
“I agree with the people of Massapequa, Long Island, who is fighting furiously to keep the Massapequa Chiefs logo on their team and school,” Trump wrote about truth social.

“To force them to change the name, after all these years, is ridiculous and in fact a violation of our large Indian population. The school board and virtually everyone in the area require the name to be held. Linda McMahon, to fight for the population of Massapequa on this very important topic.
Commander and guardians changed their name from “Redskins” and “Indians” after public screams. Chicago Blackhawks, Atlanta Braves, Kansas City Chiefs and Florida State Seminoles have all been pressed but have not changed their nicknames.
