- One UI 8.5 may include a feature to tackle apps that serve ads
- This tool would detect frequent offenders and put them to deep sleep
- There can be both basic and intelligent versions of the tool
One UI 8.5 may roll out to your Samsung Galaxy phone soon, and when it does, it may include a way to stop apps from annoying you with ads in your notifications.
We bet no one likes when a notification they receive is nothing more than an ad, yet some apps are guilty of this, and a feature in One UI 8.5 may allow you to automatically put these apps to deep sleep.

From the accompanying screenshots, it looks like there will be two versions of this feature – a ‘basic block’ option that will block apps that Samsung has already identified as sending frequent ads, and a ‘smart block’ option that analyzes notifications on your phone to determine if they’re ads and then blocks apps that send them frequently.
However, the description notes that this intelligent blocking feature’s assessment of messages is not always accurate.
In any case, by ‘blocked’ Samsung means it will put the app into deep sleep, which will stop it from sending notifications or running in the background. However, the app remains on your device, so if you still want to interact with it, you can open it manually.
One of many useful One UI 8.5 upgrades
So this sounds like a potentially useful feature, especially if you’ve come across apps that are guilty of this practice, and while we always take leaks with a grain of salt, this comes from a reputable source and the screenshots look real, so it’s probably coming.
This isn’t the only handy feature we’re likely to see in One UI 8.5 either, as previous leaks also point to priority notifications, anti-theft tools, an upgraded camera app and more.
As for exactly when we’ll get all of this, One UI 8.5 is expected to go into open beta in a few days, with the finished version likely to roll out alongside the Samsung Galaxy S26 series – which, based on leaks, could land anywhere from January to March.
