Former Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore will not serve prison time when he was sentenced Tuesday, April 13, 2025, to 18 months of probation.
He was sentenced to two misdemeanor charges earlier this year after pleading no contest.
The 40-year-old former coach was charged after a confrontation with his executive assistant, with whom he had been in a relationship. He was fired on December 10, 2025, after the university found out.
That same day, Moore allegedly went to the woman’s apartment and accused her of getting him fired. Authorities say he threatened to kill himself using butter knives inside her home.
He originally faced a charge of home invasion plus two other counts. That could have meant serious prison time, but prosecutors agreed to drop the crime. Moore pleaded no contest to trespassing and misusing a telecommunications device instead.
Judge Cedric Simpson imposed a suspended sentence in Washtenaw County Court, given that Moore had no prior criminal record. The maximum penalty for the two offenses was six months behind bars.
Moore has had a decorated coaching career at Michigan. He joined as tight ends coach in 2018 and worked his way up to offensive coordinator.
He then became the head coach after Jim Harbaugh left for the NFL. He helped lead the Wolverines to the 2023 national championship.
