Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar discussed bilateral relations in a telephone conversation on Friday with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced in an X-post.

The two leaders also discussed “cooperation in multilateral forums in support of international peace and security,” the ministry said. Lavrov appreciated Pakistan’s constructive role in facilitating Iran-US dialogue, the statement added.

Dar emphasized Pakistan’s willingness to continue to contribute to efforts to promote dialogue and diplomacy to resolve all issues.

The foreign ministers further reiterated “the importance of maintaining regular high-level engagements,” and discussed rescheduling Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to Russia “at an early mutually convenient time.”

The statement ended with Dar inviting Lavrov to visit Pakistan as both sides agreed to remain in contact.

Earlier, DPM also spoke to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. According to an official statement, “Dar discussed regional developments, the ceasefire and ongoing diplomatic efforts by Pakistan.”

He “underscored the importance of sustained dialogue and engagement to resolve outstanding issues to promote regional peace and stability at the earliest,” while Araghchi “appreciated Pakistan’s consistent and constructive facilitating role in this regard,” the statement added.

The calls come as state media said Araghchi is expected to arrive in Islamabad on Friday night with a small team to take part in a second round of talks with the United States. Meanwhile, the US logistics and security team is already in Islamabad for the talks, it added.

The renewed talks were expected to take place on Tuesday but never took place, with Iran saying it was not yet ready to commit to participation and a US delegation led by Vice President JD Vance never leaving Washington.
