Petroleum tax crosses Rs1.2tr in nine months

ISLAMABAD:

The government collected more than Rs1.2 trillion from consumers in oil levies during the first nine months of the current fiscal year, while over Rs35 billion was recovered under the Climate Support Levy (CSL), according to official documents.

The documents further revealed that electricity consumers across the country paid more than Rs1.9 trillion in tax during the last three years through electricity distribution companies (DISCOs).

According to the records, the government collected Rs145 billion in oil tax in July 2025, Rs115 billion in August, Rs111 billion in September, Rs145 billion in October, Rs151 billion in November, Rs157 billion in December, Rs124 billion in January, 2026, Rs12 billion in March and Rs12 billion in March.

Officials also revealed that Rs35 billion had so far been collected from consumers under CSL on petroleum products, while total collections under the head are expected to reach Rs51 billion by the end of the current financial year – June 2026.

Separately, official records of DISCOs revealed that electricity consumers paid more than Rs1.9 trillion in tax during the last three financial years. During the financial year 2022-23, consumers paid Rs507 billion in tax, while the amount increased to Rs698 billion in the financial year 2023-24 and over Rs700 billion last financial year.

Among the distribution companies, Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) recorded the highest collection, recovering more than Rs 532 billion. over the three-year period. Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) followed with Rs323 billion, and Faisalabad Electric Supply Company with Rs307 billion.

Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco) collected Rs240 billion, while Islamabad Electric Supply Company (Iesco) recovered Rs2.32 trillion. Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) collected Rs151 billion and Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco) collected Rs57.58 billion.

Meanwhile, Sukkur Electric Power Company (Sepco) collected Rs34.46 billion, Quetta Electric Supply Company (Qesco) collected Rs24.28 billion and Tribal Electric Supply Company (Tesco) collected Rs1.55 billion in tax from consumers in the last three years.
