FM Dar reiterates Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace under Islamabad MoU in conversation with Saudi counterpart

Conveys Pakistan’s condolences on the helicopter crash in Saudi Arabia that killed 14 people

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to promote peace and stability in the region under the “Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding” during a telephone conversation with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud on Sunday.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), the two leaders held an in-depth discussion on recent regional developments and expressed deep concern over the developing situation.

“FM Dar reiterated Pakistan’s resolve to continue working towards the spread of peace in the region under the ‘Islamabad MoU’,” the statement said.

During the call, FM Dar also conveyed Pakistan’s condolences over a helicopter crash in Saudi Arabia that killed 14 people.

He expressed sympathy on behalf of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defense Forces, Field Marshal Asim Munir, the Government and people of Pakistan.

Prince Faisal thanked Pakistan for what the ministry described as a “brotherly gesture” and expressed appreciation for the condolences.

The Saudi Foreign Minister also expressed his intention to visit Pakistan at the earliest mutually convenient opportunity. FM Dar welcomed the proposed visit and expressed hope that it would materialize soon.

Earlier in the day, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, expressed “serious concerns” over the latest ceasefire violations during a telephone conversation with FM Dar.

Kallas stressed that “channels of communication must remain open” as the two leaders reviewed the rapidly evolving regional situation. She also appreciated “Pakistan’s sincere efforts culminating in the signing of the Islamabad MoU”.

FM Dar briefed the EU foreign policy chief on Pakistan’s continued diplomatic engagement aimed at promoting regional peace. He informed Kallas of “Pakistan’s continued diplomatic efforts towards a comprehensive framework for peace and stability in the Middle East.”
